Her mishap comes in the middle of a nationwide movement to address racial inequality and police brutality, in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death.
Pelosi appeared not to realize her embarrassing mistake as she was answering a question about the sweeping George Floyd policing reform bill – which was passed by House Democrats on Thursday.
The speaker was describing a time when a family member of George Floyd spoke with her: “Speaker, do you think I can tell George’s daughter that his name will always be remembered because you’ll name the bill for him?”
Pelosi added: “And I said, well, ‘I’ll recommend that to the Judiciary Committee and to the uh… to the Congressional Black Caucus who shaped the bill.
“But I only will do that if you tell me that this legislation is worthy of George Kirby’s name.”
“And he said it is, and so we’re very proud, we’re very proud to carry that.”
Not only did Pelosi appear to almost forget the Congressional Black Caucus, but she completely botched Floyd’s last name.
